PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Occupy Pittsburgh movement may be coming to a close. According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, some people in the encampment appeared to be leaving their Mellon Green encampment Sunday morning. On Thursday, a judge ruled in favor of BNY Mellon. The bank wants Occupy Pittsburgh out of the park because they say the protest presents a safety hazard. Occupy protestors have until Monday to move out, but some of them would not tell KDKA’s Brenda Waters if they planned to leave. If the protestors do not leave the park by Monday, BNY Mellon will have to file a request for eviction. However, there may not be many people left at the encampment at this point. On six different nights, KD Investigator Marty Griffin visited the tent encampment on the Mellon Green downtown and found all 60 tents where you would expect protestors to be sleeping — empty. The second night Griffin was accompanied by Moon Run Fire Captain Nate Kashmer who used a thermal imaging camera to see if any people were sleeping in the tents. After walking through the entire encampment with the camera, Kashmer and Marty found no one in any of the tents. Organizers are non-committal about whether they will leave peacefully, and dodged Griffin’s questions about why they’re not occupying full-time.
